Swimwear for Over 40: How to Look Sassy, Not Frumpy

Swimwear for Over 40: How to Look Sassy, Not Frumpy

As we mature, it can be challenging to find flattering swimwear that not only fits well but also makes us feel confident and stylish. However, just because you're over 40 doesn't mean you have to settle for frumpy, unflattering swimwear. With the right styles and tips, you can look sassy and fabulous at the lake, pool or beach this summer.

Each Winter, we plan a beach getaway and this year was no different. In January, Eric and Kim spent a week on St. John in the U.S.V.I.  When shopping for something new for the trip, Kim stumbled across a great flattering swimwear brand she is super excited to share with The Anchor Crew.  When we say fell in love, we mean in love enough to buy three - yes three - swimsuits from Bleu|Rod Beattie, along with a beautiful sarong that coordinates with all three of the suits.

What is it about Bleu|Rod Beattie that sparked this new love affair?  Kim says there are four main reasons she is now a huge proponent of their brand.

  1. The Overall Fit/Quality - Bleu|Rod suits are designed for all shapes, sizes, and have great coverage.  The fabric of their suits provides the perfect level of thickness to give support and hug your curves in all the right places.  Kim feels the suits truly hide the lumps and bumps and smooths the midsection.  We love that they include adjustable straps to ensure a customized and secure fit on top. They have sizes ranging from 4 to 22.
  2. Modern Style - Bleu|Rod suits are available in the latest trend styles, colors, and prints. Classic one-piece swimsuits are a popular option, as they provide full coverage while still being stylish and on-trend. If you prefer two-piece swimwear, look for a high-neck tankini or a bandeau bikini with a skirted bottom. These styles provide ample coverage while still showing off some skin, giving you the perfect balance of comfort and style.
  3. Ageless Attitude - There is absolutely no reason you have to feel frumpy and dread putting on a swimsuit.  You just have to take the time to find the right fit and be willing to invest in a quality suit that works for your body.  Sometimes that can mean a bit more than you wanted to spend, but if it makes you feel confident and sassy, then make the splurge on flattering swimwear.  Bleu|Rod swimsuits have extra details that do not go unnoticed like wooden beads, ruffles, belts, and figure flattering styles that provide just the right amount of sexy.  Life is too short to live in frumpy swimwear.
  4. Coordinating Accessories - Bleu|Rod Beattie has a wide range of beautiful coordinating coverups, sarongs, and skirts.  Kim purchased a long sarong that pairs well with all three of the suits she purchased from this flattering swimwear company.

Quality Suits Worth the Splurge

Here is a look at the three swimsuits and coordinating sarong that Kim purchased for the St. John trip and to enjoy this summer season.

First up is this Let's Get Loud Plunge One-Piece that has an all-over bold colorful tropical print. It has great support all throughout the suit with a tortoise O-ring with keyhole detail in the front and adjustable criss cross straps in the back.  It is fully lined with removable soft cups and has full bottom coverage.

The second option is this Let's Get Loud High Neck Lace Down One-Piece.  The same bold colorful tropical print from the above swimsuit is used in the cutout details on the front and back of this one, however it is tamed down by the predominantly slimming black body of the suit.  It also has adjustable over the shoulder straps and a full coverage bottom.

The third Bleu|Rod Beattie swimsuit is this all black Kore Low Neck Lace Down One-Piece.  Kim loves the wooden beads accenting the lace down front, and it has the fun lace down detail in the back.  All the same great features apply to this option as well, such as the adjustable over the shoulder straps and the full coverage bottom.  This swimsuit provides just the right amount of sexy, and while it comes in other colors, she chose it in black.

As mentioned above this flattering swimwear brand has adorable coordinating cover-ups and sarongs.  Kim snatched up this Let's Get Loud Ruffle Sarong before the trip to the USVI.  It features the same tropical print as two of the above suits and the ruffle detail is so fun, but what really sold Kim on the sarong is that it would coordinate back to all three of the above Bleu|Rod swimsuits.  The sarong was worn on the regular on the St. John trip, and will be a great piece to throw on all summer at the lake.

Quality Suits on a Budget

This flattering budget-friendly swimsuit has been a favorite of ours for the past year.  For under $40, this one-piece one-shoulder ruffle option is made of a great quality fabric that also smooths and flattens the mid-section and provides great support on top.

This Amazon best seller has been a staple for us the past three years.  The Mesh V-Neck Monokini with Tummy Control has a high-neck design and a padded push up bra.  The see-through mesh style plunging neck helps you to feel sexy while still making you feel covered up.  The ruched torso with tummy control has a powerful slimming effect.  It comes in a variety of different colors and even some prints for under $30!

In conclusion, swimwear for over 40 can be both stylish and comfortable. By focusing on fit, style, color, and accessories, you can find swimwear that flatters your body, complements your personal style, and makes you feel confident and fabulous at the lake, beach or pool. So, go ahead and embrace your inner goddess this summer, and enjoy the warm weather and sunshine in swimwear that looks sassy, not frumpy.
