Lake Activities: 10 Ways To Maximize Your Summer Adventures

Summer is right around the corner, and what better way to beat the heat than spending time at the lake? With its refreshing water, scenic views, and abundance of fun activities, the lake is the perfect destination for families and friends looking to have some summer fun. Whether you're an adventure-seeker looking for an adrenaline rush or someone who enjoys a relaxing day by the water, there are plenty of activities to choose from. In this blog, we'll explore some of the most popular and exciting lake activities to help you plan the ultimate summer getaway. So grab your swimsuit, sunscreen, and sense of adventure, and let's dive into the fun!  We've gathered up a list of our 10 favorite lake activities to maximize your Summer Adventures:

  1. Boating: Whether you prefer a pontoon, ski boat, yacht, or kayak, boating is a great way to explore the lake and enjoy the peaceful scenery around you. Our favorite is taking our pontoon out, dropping an anchor and floating for hours on end... literally until the sun is setting and we must go in for dinner.  We truly believe there's no better way to spend the day than this.

  2. Fishing: With 3 grandsons (and the newest Anchor baby boy), fishing is a common lake activity we all can enjoy.  We have a stash of poles in our shed for all ages and we love that this activity can be enjoyed by all ages. Our boys love to sit along the large landscaping rocks and dangle their worms in the water to catch all the freshly hatched 3-5" bluegill, while Grandpa loves to take his fishing boat out as the sun is rising and enjoy the peace and serenity while seeking a fresh catch.

  3. Swimming: Swimming is a great way to cool off on a hot summer day at the lake. Kids ALWAYS wear a life jacket when swimming, as the water is not clear and we never know the depth of the areas we are in.  Even the adults will always have a floatation device of some sort.  If they are not wearing a life jacket, they have some sort of floatie to help them stay afloat. We love these hammock floaties that are inexpensive, comfortable, and don't take up much room in the boat.
  4. Water Sports: Water skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing are all great ways to add some excitement to your lake experience.  We start our days with "Ski School" and the Anchor Man sets out to teach the kids how to wakeboard, kneeboard, and ski.  It's important to hit the water early, before the rest of the lake wakes and the water gets rough. The kids can tube ALL DAY long because rough water doesn't matter for this one.
  5. Wakeboarding 9-year-old boy
  6. Hiking, Running, or Walking: Many lakes are surrounded by beautiful natural areas, trails, and paths to explore. We love starting the day with exercise by waking early, before the sun gets too hot, to walk the 5 mile loop around our lake.  You don't have to do that distance, even a mile is a simple, yet peaceful way to explore the area.  We often get to encounter some wildlife along the way too!

  7. Riding Around: We love to adventure around our lake on our golf cart to check out what's happening.  We're always checking out new construction, seeing friends, or hopping from one happy hour to the next as we ride around.  This is another great way to meet new people around the lake and we've made some really great friends doing this.  Whether you have a golf cart, ATV, or other method of ride-on, enjoy adventuring to new parts of the lake you're less familiar with.

  8. BBQ Cookout: We always enjoy a good BBQ with family and friends.  We typically cover the meat and ask others to bring a side dish, or we keep it super simple and do chips as our side. This is a great time to drag out the yard games, crank up the music, and enjoy socializing. The great thing is you can always cook ALOT of food on the flat top or grill too so the more the merrier!  Don't overcomplicate it, no one cares about fancy here.

  9. Sunset Cruise: We absolutely love loading up the pontoon and taking it out to the main cove to float and watch the sunset.  There's just something about the sunset over the lake that refreshes the soul. And it's incredibly amazing that you could watch it every day you're there and no 2 will ever look the same.  It never grows old.  Dog and the Sunset over the Lake

  10. Yard Games/Board Games: It's always fun to get out the yard games while we prepare for dinner or if we decide to spend the day floating off the dock.  Some of our fav yard games are corn hole, Connect 4 (giant), Jumbo Jenga, or typically there's a good ole' game of competitive backyard baseball.  Yes, we also said board games, because unfortunately sometimes it rains on lake days.  We love having a cabinet of fun board games to play for these days.  Our family favorites are Jokers & Marbles, Sequence, and Horse Races.

  11. Captain's Hour Gathering:  We love to host the Captain's Hour at 5:30pm each day.  Everyone around the lake knows they can come over via car, golf cart, boat, or foot and enjoy a fresh drink and some appetizers at the Cocktail Cove Bar and Patio!  We love seeing who shows up and getting to know new people around the lake that come by.

Spending time at the lake is an excellent way to enjoy the outdoors and create unforgettable memories with family and friends. There are plenty of fun activities to do at the lake, like we talked about: swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, and even water skiing. You can also participate in yard games like cornhole and backyard baseball, have a picnic, or enjoy a barbecue with your loved ones. Exploring the surrounding nature and hiking trails, spotting local wildlife, or simply watching the sunset over the water are also great ways to unwind and appreciate the beauty of the lake. Whatever your preferences, the lake offers endless possibilities for the perfect combo of fun and relaxation.

Remember that lake house fun is not only about the activities but also about spending quality time with loved ones. Enjoy your time at the lake and make memories that will last a lifetime with your family and friends.

I agree that the lake is the ideal summertime vacation spot for families and friends due to its cool water, beautiful scenery, and variety of enjoyable activities. As you said, there are many activities to pick from, whether you’re an adventurer searching for an adrenaline rush or someone who likes a restful day by the ocean. Okay, this just made me want to pack up my bags and book a trip to a lake house with my friends. We can rent a tritoon and explore the waters and I just know it’ll be so much fun!
